One of the typical questions I get is: are you feeling any symptoms yet? Now that I’m in my second trimester, I’m feeling pretty good. Not great, but good. The first trimester though… that’s a completely different story. I was caught completely off guard when I was overwhelmed with symptoms early on. Some of the symptoms I wasn’t even aware of. I was expecting the typical morning sickness in the first trimester, the big appetite later on, and the swollen limbs when I start to get much bigger. This has not been my idea of a typical pregnancy in terms of symptoms. Cramps and back pain two weeks in, then it was morning sickness all day long, every day. Then lost of appetite, swollen feet, swollen hands, swollen nasal passage. Oh and I can’t forget the headaches. The doctor gave me pills for my “morning” sickness but the side effect is headaches – so, um, more headaches? No thanks. The funniest (in hindsight), most unusual symptom is my aversion to music. I think the melodies was making me nauseated, like motion sickness from a moving car or a rocking boat. So almost the entire first trimester, I could not turn on the radio in the car. It was the weirdest thing. Four and a half months later, I am happy to say I’m starting to get my appetite back. I’m listening to the radio again. The headaches have subsided. Everything else is now bearable, manageable. Like my doctor said, it’s time to finally enjoy this pregnancy… whatever that means.
