This past summer, my sister sent me this link to a recipe for a bug repellent lotion bar. We didn’t get around to making this until last month. I was in the mood for something crafty. We didn’t have a mold for the lotion bar so my sister picked some up from the 99 cent store. When I saw the duck mold, I immediately thought this would be a great baby shower thank you gift.
Here is the list of ingredients I was able to purchased from Amazon (I found some cheaper alternatives to a couple of the ingredients in the original link):
- 1/4 cup grated Raw Coco Butter
- 1/4 cup grated Beeswax
- 1/4 tsp Bug Off Essential Oil Blend
- 1/4 tsp Germ Fighter Essential Oil Blend
- 1/4 cup grated Coconut Oil
The directions are really straight forward: Melt the Coco Butter, Beeswax, and coconut oil over low heat. Remove from heat and add the essential oils. Pour into mold and let cool to harden.
I can’t speak to how well these work since we’re not in bug season anymore but these lotion bars smell a lot like the citronella products you find in retail stores to repel bugs.
We decided to use these lotion bars as thank you gifts so I went ahead and made some packages for them. I really love how well they turned out.
